कुमाऊँ' के सभी तालों में 'सातताल' का जो अनोखा और नैसर्गिक सौन्दर्य है, वह किसी दूसरे ताल का नहीं है।
सातताल घने वाँस वृक्षों की सघन छाया में समुद्रतल से 1219 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है।
इसमें तीन ताल राम, सीता और लक्ष्मण ताल कहे जाते हैं। इसकी लम्बाई 19 मीटर, चौड़ाई 315 मीटर और गहराई 150 मीटर तक आंकी गयी है, इस ताल तक पहुँचने के लिए भीमताल से ही मुख्य मार्ग है। भीमताल से 'सातताल' की दूरी केवल 4 कि॰मी॰ है। नैनीताल से सातताल 21 कि॰मी॰ की दूरी पर स्थित है।
इस ताल की विशेषता यह है कि लगातार सात तालों का सिलसिला इससे जुड़ा हुआ है। इसीलिए इसे 'सातताल' कहते है। नैसर्गिक सुन्दरता के लिए यह ताल जहाँ प्रसिद्ध है वहाँ मानव की कला के लिए भी विख्यात है। यही कारण है कि कुमाऊँ क्षेत्र के सभी तालों में यह ताल सर्वोत्तम है।
Sattal or Sat Tal is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal, a town of the Nainital district in Uttarakhand, India.
The lakes sit at an altitude of 1219 metres below lush orchards in the Mehragaon valley.
Set amongst dense forests of oak and pinetrees, Sattal is one of the few unspoiled and unpolluted freshwater biomes in India.
These lakes are a paradise for migratory birds. It is home to a few camps being operated mostly by local people catering to tourists looking for outdoor vacations.
Best Season / Best Time to Visit Sattal
In Sattal, April, May and June are summer months offering very pleasant and warm climate within a temperature range of 10°C to 28°C. During winters in December to February, the climate is very severe and the temperature reaches to 2°C and winters are accompanied by heavy snowfalls.
The months July and August are the season for rainfalls. Sattal experiences average rainfalls during the monsoons.
